SCOTLAND GAME: RED STAG and SIKA STAG Hunting Area: Inverness region We hunt several different estates around Inverness. This area is famous for traditional Red Stag and Sika Stag stalking. The area is open heather with rolling hills which makes the hunting very exciting. There are no trees for cover, so the shooting distances can be up to 200 yards. In those areas with both Red and Sika Deer, you generally hunt the Sika in the mornings and evenings and spend the day in the hills hunting for Red Stags. The trophy size of the Stags in Scotland is not comparable to the rest of Europe, because the food and climate is not as good. That is why the Scottish Red Stags are a separate category in the SCI Record Book. The Red Stags are mostly 6 to 10- pointers, sometimes 12-pointers. The Sika Stags are 8 to 10-pointers. Lodging is in small, nice hotels in the hunting area. There are many sightseeing attractions in this area. You should visit world famous Loch Ness and one of the traditional whiskey distilleries.
